Benjie grew up in Los Altos, California, and graduated from Pomona College in 2013 with a B.A. in chemistry. He studied membrane protein biochemistry as an undergraduate with Professor Matthew Sazinsky before moving to Freiburg, Germany as a Fulbright Fellow to research novel therapies for graft-versus-host disease in the lab of Professor Robert Zeiser. Benjie is currently pursuing his MD/PhD research in the lab of Professor Carolyn Bertozzi through the Department of Chemical & Systems Biology and Stanford's Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP). Benjie's research interests include (1) glycan metabolism in cancer, (2) the role of glycosylation in modulating the immune system, and (3) the development of novel glycan-directed immunotherapies.
