Chemistry Stanford ChEM-H Sarafan Graduate Fellow

Jennifer Co

Jennifer Co (she/her) is from the Bay Area where she was born and raised in Brisbane, California, and received her B.S. in Chemical Biology from UC Berkeley alongside a minor in Creative Writing. While at Berkeley, Jen worked with the Nomura Group for chemoproteomics where she used Activity Based Protein Profiling (ABPP) as a covalent ligand discovery platform to develop small molecule strategies towards disease therapeutics within the undruggable proteome. In particular, Jen worked on the discovery of a covalent ligand that selectively targets the MYC oncogene, as well as the synthesis of several proteolysis targeting chimeras (PROTAC) degraders to induce the ubiquitination of disease related proteins for degradation by the proteasome. Jen enjoys the capacity for both creative and technical thought within chemistry and wants all of the questions she asks in her research to be driven by therapeutic impact. In her PhD at Stanford, Jen is interested in continuing to develop novel chemical tools and platforms that reimagine the role of chemistry in biological study. Outside of her research, Jen is passionate about mentorship within the sciences and working with her scientific community to continue to make the field more accessible for historically marginalized scientists and students. Jen is excited to do so here at Stanford and embark on her PhD candidacy as part of this year's ChEM-H CBI cohort.
